FSIS Retracts Public Health Alert for Frozen, Ready-To-Eat Chicken Nuggets Due to Updated Laboratory Result

FSIS RETRACTS PUBLIC HEALTH ALERT FOR FROZEN, READY-TO-EAT CHICKEN NUGGETS DUE TO UPDATED LABORATORY RESULT WASHINGTON, April 6, 2026 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is retracting the public health alert issued on April 1, 2026, for Walmart Great Value Fully Cooked Dino Shaped Chicken Breast Nuggets with “Best If Used By” date “Feb 10 2027” produced by Dorada Foods after confirming that the product does not pose a public health concern. The public health alert was originally issued based on routine surveillance sampling conducted by the New York State Department of Public Health that indicated elevated trace levels of lead. Because this product is commonly consumed by children, FSIS issued the alert to inform consumers of a potential risk. Following the alert, additional sampling was conducted by the New York State Department of Public Health and the producing establishment, Dorada Foods. As part of that process, the original lot of product was tested as well as additional lots. All follow up testing, including testing of the original lot, found no elevated levels of lead in the product. FSIS subsequently reviewed the underlying laboratory data in coordination with the New York State Department of Health and determined that the initial result was a false positive, caused by sporadic lead contamination at the laboratory during analysis, not contamination of the product itself. Follow up testing confirmed no elevated levels of lead were present in any of the products tested. FSIS has therefore concluded that the product does not pose a public health concern.

USDA Announces Results of Referendum for the California Raisin Marketing Order

USDA Announces Results of Referendum for the California Raisin Marketing Order Notice to Trade The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) today announced that producers voted to amend the federal marketing order for raisins grown in California in a referendum conducted Jan. 12-30, 2026. The Raisin Administrative Committee administers the marketing order which authorizes quality regulations and research and promotion programs regulating the handling of raisins produced from grapes grown in California. To be accepted, the amendments have to be favored by two-thirds of the producers voting, or by two-thirds of the volume represented. The following are the amendments voted on by producers and the corresponding results for each: Amendment 1 – Reduce committee size from 47 to 21 members and alternates, remove producer district representation and add a non-affiliated producer member seat, eliminate the designated cooperative bargaining association member seat, and lower quorum requirements from 25 to 14. Favored by 76.25% of voting raisin producers, representing 82.66% of the production volume voted in the referendum. Amendment 2 – Remove the requirement for separate nominations for independent producers or producers affiliated with small cooperative marketing associations. Favored by 67.50% of voting raisin producers, representing 81.65% of the production volume voted in the referendum. Amendment 3 – Remove factor four and part of factor five for establishing marketing policy and add language to clarify the quality of reconditioned raisins. Favored by 81.25% of voting raisin producers, representing 91.99% of the production volume voted in the referendum. Amendment 4 – Add authority to accept voluntary contributions and add language regarding ownership of intellectual property. Favored by 72.97% of voting raisin producers, representing 87.75% of the production volume voted in the referendum. FSIS Issues Public Health Alert For Frozen, Dinosaur-Shaped, Ready-To-Eat Chicken Nuggets Due To Traces Of Lead The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is issuing a public health alert for frozen, dinosaur-shaped, ready-to-eat chicken nuggets that may be contaminated with unsafe levels of lead. A recall was not requested because the products are no longer available for purchase. However, FSIS is concerned that some product may still be in consumers’ freezers.
