Summary: The commenter opposes the proposed management flexibility amendment, arguing that it could weaken existing regulations and lead to less accountability and the prioritization of short-term profit over long-term sustainability. They urge NOAA to continue following the best science and the law to protect vulnerable fisheries.
Please don’t weaken existing regulations that protect fisheries from harmful or unsustainable harvest amounts or methods. The Trump administration has sadly demonstrated its willingness to sacrifice the long term sustainability of natural resources for short term profit. Flexibility in this case may open the door for less accountability and more subjugation of science to crass political pressure. NOAA must continue to follow the law, best science, and make decisions in the long term public interest. Many fisheries are vulnerable and need responsible management. Thank you very much for your kind consideration.
