I, as a parent, support the petition and the followings are what I am asking for: 1. A mandatory boxed warning under 21 C.F.R. § 201.80(e) naming stroke, cancer, sterility, venous thromboembolism risk and cognitive decline 2. A “Part 15” public hearing to get transparent scientific debate on the record 3. A comprehensive safety review and REMS evaluation 4. Mandatory enhanced adverse event reporting 5. Development of communications for medical providers regarding safeguards My son is now in his thirties and suffers from ADHD and symptoms of depression. Four years ago, believing the claim that gender transition would resolve his psychological issues, he went directly to Planned Parenthood—without any evaluation by a psychiatrist or therapist—to obtain estrogen from a physician assistant and began taking it. Since he started taking estrogen, both his mental and physical health have steadily deteriorated. Two years after deciding to transition, he became unable to work; he had to quit his job and move back into his parents' home, where he has remained for the past two years. During this time, his mental state has continued to worsen because he refuses professional treatment and attributes all his problems to external factors. He is now emotionally volatile, frequently flying into rages, verbally abusing others, and throwing objects or slamming doors. His ability to function in daily life has also declined; he often complains of a lack of energy, spends his days lying on the sofa, and now finds it difficult even to leave the house. In short, after four years of taking estrogen, his mental health has severely deteriorated, and he has lost the ability to work or live independently. Allowing a physician assistant to initiate a lifelong regimen of such serious medication—without any evaluation by specialized physicians, such as endocrinologists or psychiatrists—represents a grave medical failure; it is a failure of medical care for individuals seeking gender transition.
