Summary: The commenter opposes the citizen petition, arguing that it relies on fearmongering, false assumptions, and skewed information regarding cancer risks and suicide rates. They specifically argue that the petition's proposed restrictions on medication would harm transgender individuals and that the petition's goals are aligned with discriminatory political agendas.
I am commenting on the citizen petition FDA-2025-P-7321.
This petition is filled with false assumptions, poor logic, and fearmongering. It calls for changes in labels and a patient registry that is reminiscent of the registration that happened during WW2 which allowed the Nazi party to know where their targets were and create a coordinated strike that killed millions. The petition states that, there is a a higher risk of various cancers but presents the information in a way that makes the risk seem significantly higher which skews information to play on fear.
The petition also states that there is an increased rate of suicide by transgender individuals. However, according to the national library of medicine the driving factor for increased suicide risk is acceptance by the family of the transgender individual (https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9991447/) By restricting the life saving medication from those that are taking it, as prescribed by a medical professional, the risk of suicide would increase. Access to medication is only a good thing.
The last point I want to make on this is that since his first day in office, Trump has been attacking transgender individuals by signing various executive orders to dehumanize and strip them of their rights. Trump and his allies have targeted what they call “Gender Ideology Extremism”, seeking to erase trans and nonbinary people by asserting that males and females “are not changeable,” a viewpoint that ignores extensive scientific evidence (https://www.scientificamerican.com/blog/voices/stop-using-phony-science-to-justify-transphobia/). Trump’s numerous executive anti-transgender orders have subsequently paved the way for further federal attacks. Don't let your agency become a tool that is used to hurt Americans.
