Summary: An individual pilot who is a diabetic supports the petition for exemption from current FAA medical certification requirements. They argue that modern medicine makes the disease easily manageable and that the current application process is overly cumbersome and ambiguous.
I strongly support this petition for exemption. The FAA has made it very cumbersome for diabetics to receive medical certificates. After several years of diabetics flying without incident on 3rd class medicals, and now 1st and 2nd class medicals, the ambiguous process for application needs to change. All pilots deserve clear medical certification
standards. The advances in modern medicine have also made the disease easily managed with little effort, unlike 20 or 30 years ago. This petition only improves aviation safety and is in the public interest. Please issue
this exemption promptly.
