I write as a concerned citizen, and a member of a family who uses Consumers utilities. First of all, thank you for holding a hearing in Holland. However, a virtual option would be appreciated if there is still time. Second, I do not appreciate the mistake about the comment deadline: It was announced to end on Sunday, when in fact it ends at 11:59 today. I would like to request an extension to the comment deadline to make up for that. Third, I would simply like to say that waste injection wells do not completely eliminate the risk to the local watershed, and by extension to the Great Lakes, especially given increasing flooding events from more frequent extreme storms and heavy snow-melt. I am in full agreement with the commenters declaring as much, along with the fact that underground injection wells would be harder to monitor. Unless Consumers is willing to produce guarantees that thorough monitoring is possible, and are willing to spare the expense out of their own pockets without adding more to ratepayers' utility costs, I suggest denying this permit. Lastly, I hope you will consider shutting down the Campbell Coal Plant entirely, notwithstanding any executive orders to the contrary. It adds needless costs as it is, and it is frustrating that in the face of air quality hazards from wildfires in neighboring areas, a plant that would constantly add more to that should continue to operate. Furthermore, please clean out the ash pits that also add to the water and soil pollution, and while you are doing that, consider harvesting useful minerals from the pits, which would save having to mine more.
