Comment Docket ID No. EPA-R05-OW-2025-2730 I attended the meeting listed below on July 15,2026. Consumers Energy officials will be on hand at the Port Sheldon Township Hall (16201 Port Sheldon St.) from 5:30 to 7 PM July 15, 2026, answering questions about a proposed disposal of non-hazardous wastewater through deep well injection. The material is currently mixed with cooling water from the coal-fired plant’s generating units for safe discharge into Lake Michigan. Printed material provided by Consumers Energy at the meeting states the CCR is currently mixed with cooling water from Campbell's operating generating units for safe discharge into Lake Michigan. However during a verbal presentation it was stated discharge is into the intake channel. Is the intake channel one and the same as Lake Michigan, just stated by different identifiers? Intake channel would be for cooling water intake? Warm water discharge would be offshore in Lake Michigan? Consumers Energy pumps water from Pigeon Lake (including inflows from the Pigeon River) into the plant, then discharges it through a buried pipe about 1/4 mile offshore. The warm water discharge is about 1/4 mile north of the piers in Lake Michigan in about 25 FOW. In the winter months they divert some of the discharge flow into the pipes that run along the north pier, and dump the warm water into the channel to help keep it from freezing. Is the operation discharge location both Lake Michigan or the Pigeon Lake Channel depending on the time of year? In addition, Does the all inclusive term “cooling water” include boiler and condensate chemical treatment additives that are also discharged? Corrosion Inhibitors, Scale Inhibitors, Oxygen Scavengers, Alkalinity Builders or Ph treatment chemicals or Sludge Conditioners? Requesting a flow chart mapping and identifying point of current discharge of cooling water be available to the Public for viewing at the July 23 EPA Public Hearing for clear transparency and public understanding. Requesting an itemized definition of “cooling water”. Cooling water sounds harmless until cooling water and the full spectrum composition are fully vetted and transparently disclosed.
