Summary: A former resident of Port Sheldon Township, Michigan, expresses concern regarding the proposed injection wells at the JH Campbell Power Plant site. The commenter argues that the project poses risks to groundwater and Lake Michigan and advocates for a public hearing to ensure transparency and address community concerns.
As a former 45-year resident of Port Sheldon Township, MI, where the JH Campbell Power Plant is located, I am very concerned about the proposed injection wells at this site. The Port Sheldon Township Board has voted to request that the EPA hold a public hearing on this matter. This alone should warrant a public hearing, as the board is advocating for transparency and full disclosure on behalf of its residents. However, a public hearing will enable township residents and others residing in Ottawa County to address their concerns, obtain answers from professional consultants, and discuss possible long-term risks. We cannot risk contamination of Lake Michigan and the surrounding areas or compromise the groundwater.
