Dear United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Region 5,
I request that a public hearing be held in response to Consumers Energy’s request to drill and employ two deep-injection waste wells at the J.H. Campbell Power Plan site in West Olive, Michigan. Consumers Energy is seeking to use the wells for non-hazardous waste disposal at the site. Given the nature of the sandy soil geology and the very close proximity to Lake Michigan, this site is unsuitable for such a use.
I implore USEPA to conduct a series of public hearings to receive and evaluate public input and to better assess the site for this requested use.
