I am writing to voice my opposition to the proposed deep injection waste water wells at the Consumers Energy JH Cambell coal fired power generating plant in Ottawa County, Michigan. I am very concerned about the environmental consequences of such an action, given the proximity to Lake Michigan, one of the largest fresh water lakes in the world. We are already experiencing lowering ground water issues here in Ottawa County, and the proposed wells would only seem to exacerbate that issue with the potential for contaminants to migrate into ground water. Coal power plant waste is known to contain many environmental contaminants, including heavy metal and cancer causing agents. To inject it deep into the ground with questionable data about the results, while hoping it doesn't come back to haunt us later seems insane. The EPA are supposed to be stewards of the environment, and protect it in any way possible. As such, it is your obligation to put a stop to this egregious proposal, before your lack of action turns into an environmental disaster. Do the right thing. Do your job.
