Summary: A resident of West Michigan opposes the proposed drilling of two deep injection waste wells at the JH Campbell Coal Plant. The commenter argues that the project poses a significant risk of contaminating Lake Michigan's drinking water with hazardous substances like arsenic and selenium.
A public hearing must be held regarding Consumers Energy applying to drill two deep injection waste wells close to Lake Michigan at the JH Campbell Coal Plant site. Leachates from the coal ash landfills contains contaminants that must not be allowed anywhere near the precious drinking waters of Lake Michigan. West Michigan residents who obtain their drinking water from Lake Michigan sources cannot be used as guineau pigs in this ill-thought project. Consumers Energy would be long gone when the true hazard of this project is known. Why would you place at risk residents to arsenic, selenium and vanadium to name a few contaminants found in these coal ash deposits? And who would monitor the movement of these injected materials in perpetuity?
