Summary: Silvio Mazzella Jr. provides a series of scientific observations and research citations regarding the potential neurotoxic, endocrine-disrupting, and ecotoxicological effects of specific pesticides like fenpropathrin, famoxadone, and cymoxanil. The commenter expresses concerns about human health impacts (particularly on children) and environmental risks without explicitly requesting a specific regulatory change to the proposed action.
Document ID EPA-HQ-OPP-2026-0529-0001 Opinion. As part of the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA), I consider it reasonable for people within 2000 meters of crop sprays be informed about the detox of the various crop chemicals. [ Hint. Autism and SIMONE plus, by S( Conte )M Jr. ]. Comment EPA-HQ-OA-2025-0261-0006 Posted by U.S. EPA on August 15, 2025. [ https://www.regulations.gov/comment/EPA-HQ-OA-2025-0261-0006 ]. Opinion. Special attention should be given within 2000 meters of elementary schools, because of utmost caution, to avoid subacute impact on young kidneys, and/or possible endocrine-disrupting effects, by insecticides and fungicides. Let's take, for example, insecticide fenpropathrin ( FEN ) of PP 5F9177 ( EPA-HQ-OPP-2025-3824 ); "food/feed handling establishments". Polish researchers of [ PMID : 32385770 ] used 11.9 mg/kg to measure female mice Creatinine ( Cr ), plus the proinflammatory cytokines of TNFα ( TNF-alpha ), and IL-1β ( IL-1beta ); consider IF the labs had approximately increased minimally for Cr and TNF-alpha ( 0.025 mg/dl +/_ and 0.164 pg/ml +/- , respectfully ) but significantly for IL-1beta ( controls 4.67 +/- 1.154 pg/ml, versus FEN 27.983 +/- 26.382 pg/ml ( p< 0.05 ) ). Accessed July 15, 2026 [ https://apps.who.int/pesticide-residues-jmpr-database/Document/55 ]. PP 5F9177 ( EPA-HQ-OPP-2025-3824 ). I'm concerned about pollinators [ PMID : 33965824; 39591785 ], and FEN, rather than wide-area mosquito adulticide at the 0.9 ppm ( 90 ppb ) level. The qPCR analysis of Danio fish brain found exposure to FEN [ PMID : 31838190 ] "resulted in a decrease in the messenger (m)RNA expression of monoamine oxidase (mao), an enzyme that facilitates the deamination of dopamine; a possible Parkinson disease connection? By contrast, rat brains at 15mg/kg ( think 15 ppm ) doses for 60 days had encephalopathy: reduced DOPA and AChE levels, increased TNF-a, "malondialdehyde, myeloperoxidase, Caspase-3", ... plus neurodegenerative changes in the hippocampi ( learning, memory, spatial navigation [ PMID : 23349586 ] ). [ https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31838190/ ]. In terms of ecotoxicology, the Chinese minnow, Gobiocypris rarus, exposed to FEN 1.5 μg/L ( 0.0015 mg/L ) for 31 days, had decreased "androgen receptor gene (AR), estrogen receptor gene (ER1), and the sex hormone-synthesis-related genes (HMGR, CYP17, and CYP19a)" [ PMID : 38133404 ]; 2.0 μg/L of FEN upregulated juvenile Gobiocypris "estrogen receptor gene (ER2a), thyroid hormone receptor gene (TRβ), and aromatic hydrocarbon receptor genes (AhR1a and AhR2)". There appears to be Cymoxanil & Famoxadone ( fungicides ) differences by the petitioner, Interregional Research Project Number 4, with headquarters at North Carolina State University, with Brassica ( 15 ppm versus 40 ppm ), and arugula ( 19 ppm versus 25 ppm ). Likewise, potatoes have Famoxadone at 0.02 ppm ( 20 ppb ) with PP 3E9082, but 0.5 ppm ( 50 ppb ) with PP 3E9081. Why? Lastly, I'm worried about possible cilantro overlap caused by Cymoxanil PP3E9081 ( EPA-HQ-OPP-2024-0156, 19 ppm ), and Famoxadone PP 3E9082 ( EPA-HQ-OPP-2024-0155, 25 ppm ). Any overlap of these might have augmented zebrafish side effects, among them, zebrafish embryos cardiotoxicity [ PMID : 32961491 ], and immunotoxicity and neurobehavioral toxicity [ PMID : 31931321 ]. Thank You for considering and discussing my ideas. Silvio Mazzella Jr. pesticide Fenpropathrin ( TNF-alpha, IL-1beta ). fungicides Famoxadone and/or Cymoxanil ( cilantro, brassica, arugula, ... ).
