The commenter argues that commercial manufacturing could increase pressure on peyote, which is culturally and spiritually significant to Native American communities and faces conservation challenges.
I urge the DEA to deny Benuvia Operations, LLC.’s application to manufacture mescaline.
I am concerned that expanding commercial mescaline manufacturing could increase pressure on peyote, a culturally and spiritually significant cactus that already faces conservation challenges. Peyote holds deep religious importance for many Native American communities, and I believe its protection should be a priority.
I respectfully ask the DEA to carefully consider the potential impacts this application could have on peyote conservation, Indigenous religious practices protected under the American Indian Religious Freedom Act, and the long-term sustainability of this unique species. Before approving any additional manufacturing, I encourage the DEA to ensure that these cultural, environmental, and public-interest concerns have been fully addressed.
Thank you for considering my comments.
