I am just one person but I have known and seen the importance of the sacred plant medicine peyote work miracles. The indigenous tribes of America have watched as urban sprawl has depleted the once abundant sacred medicine from its natural habitat in South Texas. Even now there are individuals and members of various tribes who have poured their blood, sweat, and tears into the peyote gardens to preserve what they could before the land was plowed under to construct everything from commercial and residential spaces to windmills and solar energy. Some have spent a literal lifetime doing this. That is the importance of Grandfather Peyote. Once the land is plowed under the peyote will not grow there. It is the upper foot and a half that is the peyote medicine's habitat. The people I have met, who healed me from the traumatic effects war has on the human mind, and believe the medicine is more than a plant, a living incarnation of the Creator, have had their language stolen from them. They have had their customs and ceremonies stolen from them. They have suffered through lost land, forced assimilation, and one broken treaty after another. The Creator gave them the medicine to heal this trauma and remember the old ways. This medicine is what brought the tribes together for a common purpose-to heal from generations of abuse and the loss of knowledge to keep them subservient to colonial forces. The Creator gave them this medicine for healing. It is for them to conserve. The mescaline is not seperate from the deity and to reduce peyote medicine to one alkaloid when so many others exist that would not harm tribal customs and again take from the indigenous people who only ask that this one item be left alone is as damaging as it is disgraceful. Hear from those you would damage the most before allowing a pharmaceutical company to monetize something that does not belong to them. Please, I am begging you. Don't let this be another sacred way taken from a people who have been chosen to protect it and use it in a good way- for the prayer and healing of those who have lost much and are now struggling with a suicide rate higher than the national average and substance abuse in the form of alcoholism thanks to the introduction of this poison which was introduced by the people who committed genocide against them, broke many treaties, stole land promised to them, and even now takes from this community. Mescaline is not separate from the source. It is all part of grandfather Peyote. Do what you must with the other alkaloids but please leave this mescaline where it belongs. With the tribes that were given it in its natural form by the Creator for healing in a good way. Please. Listen to the people you have neglected and abused for generations just once!
