I oppose the proposal to use old offshore oil rigs for space rocket launches and recovery operations.
Oil rig platforms were not designed to withstand the rigors of rocket operations. Using antiquated infrastructure for launch and recovery activities could threaten workers' safety and degrade water quality. Rocket noise, explosions, fuel spills, and industrial activity would harm marine life like whales and sea turtles.
Oil companies are required to remove and clean up aging offshore oil platforms when drilling operations end and should not be allowed to leave their decrepit infrastructure in the ocean for possible future use. Using old rigs for spaceports and rocket recovery could threaten worker safety, put the environment at risk, pollute the ocean, and harm wildlife.
The federal government should protect public waters and hold oil companies accountable for cleaning up their old infrastructure. Not allow our oceans to become industrial texting grounds for billionaire's rockets. This proposal must be rejected.
