Summary: The commenter opposes the proposed commercial leasing for offshore minerals, arguing that it threatens ocean habitats and national security. They advocate for a shift toward circularity and mining landfills for mineral recovery instead of new offshore extraction.
What are regulations if we let industry have what they want with impunity. What is national security if we destroy the very things that’s sustain life on earth like our oceans that not only feed billions of people, but the habitat and fish stocks are vital too North Carolina’s economy.
We ask that nature be protected from unnecessary disruption that only leads to producing more materials that end up as waste products, whether it be bombs or batteries.
Let us put our money, time, and energy into capturing those minerals that are ending up in our Landfill because we put the emphasis on extraction instead of circularity. Let’s start mining our landfills where the extraction had already occurred and shift the focus to recovery.
