Summary: The commenter opposes the proposed commercial leasing for seabed mining off the eastern shore of Virginia. They argue that the environmental impacts on soil erosion are not sufficiently understood and request a delay of the leases until more research is conducted.
I oppose this proposal to lease Odyssey Marine Exploration or any other entity rights to seabed mining off of the eastern shore of Virginia. The eastern shore is already experience tremendous soil erosion and despite the assurances of the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, far too little is known about how seabed mining might exacerbate the problems with soil erosion on the Eastern shore of VA, MD, or NC. I urge the government to delay such leases until more research is conducted.
