I oppose this proposed rule because allowing people to purchase firearms online removes an important step in preventing gun violence. Gun dealers who see customers in person are able to recognize suspicious customer behavior that might indicate possible malicious intent. They can also observe people who might be in crisis or be a danger to themselves.
In these cases, responsible, public safety-minded FFLs can choose not to sell firearms to these individuals. They are an important part of the solution to our current gun violence crisis.
ATFs “Revising Non-Over-the-Counter Firearms Transaction Requirements” (RIN 1140-AB05) would allow more fully remote and online gun sales and, in the process, make it more difficult for gun dealers to detect suspicious behaviors and warning signs.
ATF should be working to make us safer, but this rule would do just the opposite.
