The United Methodist Church - General Board of Church and SocietyOpposeAdvocacy
Summary: The General Board of Church and Society of the United Methodist Church opposes the proposed rule, arguing that online firearm transactions remove the ability of Federal Firearm Licensees to identify suspicious behavior and straw purchasers. They state that the policy puts communities at risk and contradicts their mission to promote peace and safety.
As the social justice agency of the United Methodist Church, the General Board of Church and Society, we are writing to OPPOSE the proposed rule RIN 1140-AB05. Federal Firearm Licensees are our last line of defense against criminal actors. Only during in-person purchases can a dealer flag suspicious behavior and straw purchasers. The online option eliminates this guardrail. As people of faith, we are called upon to lead as peacemakers and prophetic witnesses to make our communities safer from gun violence. The United Methodist Church stands for peace and against any policy that puts communities at serious risk.
