The process for these new sales relies on impersonal video calls and automated checks rather than the strict, government-approved applications required for NFA items. Even with a fee, the system lacks real oversight. ATF estimates a seven-dollar cost per check, but the damage to local shops is much higher. Please strike these direct-shipping provisions from the final rule.
