Summary: The commenter opposes the proposed action, arguing that it is a waste of ATF resources and will harm firearms retailers. They suggest the agency should instead focus on fixing the NFA division, improving eforms, and addressing issues regarding state access to the NICS system.
This must be the single worst idea that ATF could focus their efforts on. The regulatory environment is shamefully out of date and the things that could be accomplished are almost endless. If I put together a list of things ATF should be focused on this wouldn’t land in the top 100. Maybe even lover. ATF has abandoned firearms retailers in blue states. They won’t answer questions or help to create dialogue with the states. This concept is a way to drive and enhance big box and online retail. Attempting to gut the backbone of not only the economy but the primary source of firearms retailers nationwide. Fix the NFA division. Get private party transfers on eforms. Get government agencies to be able to form NFA items away from the agency to enhance trade opportunities. Prevent states from accessing NICS if they restrict rights of citizens. Stop them from charging to use a system that is paid for already. They are bleeding more than 1/2 the country and spreading. Get focused on local retailers behind enemy lines in blue states.
