Comment on FR Doc # 2026-09157

Summary: The commenter opposes the proposed changes, arguing that allowing direct shipping of standard firearms will harm local gun shops and favor large online retailers. They express concern that automated checks will replace human judgment and lead to the disappearance of community stores.
The proposed changes in docket ATF-2026-0266 will kill local gun shops. When people buy guns online for delivery to their door, small dealers lose the face-to-face traffic that keeps them open. Large online retailers will win, while community stores—the ones that spot suspicious buys—will vanish. Unlike current rules for NFA items, which require the government to say yes after reviewing fingerprints and photos, this new plan just waits for a clock to run out. It relies on automated checks instead of a real person making a judgment. Please remove the sections that allow direct shipping of standard firearms. We need dealers to stay in business and remain part of our towns.
