I am writing to OPPOSE the proposed rule (RIN 1140-AA89) which I am concerned could unintentionally reduce oversight of some of the most tightly regulated firearms under federal law.
Removing the pre-travel approval requirement means owners of machine guns, short-barreled rifles, and destructive devices can cross state lines with these weapons without any prior government review.
Replacing the approval process with a notification system for longer moves means ATF may not finish its review before these weapons are already on the move.
Allowing pass-through transportation in states that ban these weapons limits those states' ability to enforce their own public safety laws.
Public safety should take priority over convenience by maintaining strong oversight of how these weapons move across state lines and ensuring they do not end up in places where they are prohibited.
