I'm opposed to the proposed "biological sex" requirement on Form 4473. The ATF's job is to keep guns out of dangerous hands—not to make it harder for vulnerable people to defend themselves.
Transgender Americans face disproportionately high rates of violent crime, and for many, legally buying a firearm is a matter of survival. This rule would force them to disclose private medical history to a stranger just to exercise a constitutional right—risking harassment, being outed in small communities, and fear of the very person facilitating the sale.
When a right becomes so burdensome that people give up on it rather than exercise it, that's disenfranchisement, not regulation. Background checks should be private and based on current legal identity. This proposal fails that standard and should be rejected.
