Summary: The commenter opposes the proposal to limit the importation of certain overseas drone manufacturers, arguing that it will negatively impact recreational users, commercial businesses, and public safety agencies due to the high cost and lower quality of domestic alternatives. They also suggest the FCC review a study by OnDefend which found no data link between these manufacturers and US consumers.
This proposal to limit additional overseas manufacturers that have shown no direct ties to prohibited Chinese, NK, or Russian drone manufactures will directly impact not only recreational drone enthusiasts, but the 1000's of commercial businesses (real estate, construction, agriculture) who rely on these overseas makers for functional, capable, and most importantly, affordable drones. As important, this proposed limit will severely impact the State, County, and Municipality Public Safety Agencies (Police, Fire, Search & Rescue, etc.) who depend on these manufacturers. Currently, and for the foreseeable future, no US manufacturer of drones can match the quality and price of the overseas makers. More importantly, none of the overpriced US makers can even make drones without using the very same supporting software, programming, chips, circuits, and control systems currently being used by those same overseas manufacturers. I also encourage the FCC to contact OnDefend an independent U.S. cybersecurity organization who found no data link between overseas drone manufacturers and US consumers. Use their objective, fact-based study to make the final determination to reject this proposal.
