Summary: A family-owned flooring and countertop business owner opposes the proposed action because it would likely lead to increased tariffs on imported quartz. The commenter argues that these tariffs would hurt their business and consumers by reducing product variety and making home renovations unaffordable for entry-level buyers.
Our family-owned business started in 2002 focused serving the local market with floor covering services, that include: design, project management, sales, and installation services. We quickly added countertop fabrication to our business offering over the next few years, as this was integral to the kitchen & bathroom services that our clients needed. We have invested millions of dollars in new facilities (2 stores & warehouses) and fabrication equipment - both domestic and foreign brands of equipment. We sell both domestic and imported quartz slab materials. I can say that the domestic production does not cover all the customers' color needs, price points, or styles. The companies that focus on domestic production tend to have much higher price points, which are out of the budget of entry-level homes in the US home building market. If increased tariffs are levied against the import quartz products, the US consumer and stores & fabricators like us will suffer. Clients will switch to less expensive materials, such as import granite, or laminated countertops. This will affect buyer choices, and will eventually hurt our family owned business.
