I oppose the proposed rule “Clarification of Discretionary Employment Authorization for Certain Aliens” (DHS Docket No. USCIS-2026-0067) because it would harm people with humanitarian parole and the communities that depend on their work and the taxes they pay. The rule would be a hardship for people from Ukraine and Afghanistan who came here to flee war. They are hardworking people just wanting to provide for their families. It would also sorely impact small businesses that employ them. These businesses may not use E-Verify. They and their communities would suffer needlessly from this rule. I sponsored a Ukrainian family in our town a few years ago. They have three little girls and we were able to get the father a job with a local plumber. Although he had owned his own plumbing business in Ukraine, he had to get certified here. He's a super hardworking man and has been paying taxes here for three years. His children are proficient in English and the family is well established. If this rule is put in place, he will not be able to support them. Or he will be forced to work under the table and will not pay taxes. I don't see how this benefits anyone. I urge DHS to withdraw this proposal and allow individuals with humanitarian parole to continue supporting their families and communities. Thank you.
