Summary: The commenter, a private individual sponsoring a Ukrainian family with TPS, argues that the government's slow processing of work authorization cards is causing severe financial hardship for the family. They urge the government to streamline the bureaucracy and process the forms in a timely manner.
As someone who is currently a sponsor of a family from the Ukraine who came here after the war started as TPS refugees, this family of 4 has lived with us since June of 2022. It took months to get their work authorization cards, and the father has been employed as an electrical apprentice for 18 months. They reapplied for their work cards on January 7, 2026 and currently have not received them. The wife was let go from her job at a school on June 1 and he was let go on July 18, 2026 because the reauthorizations had not been received. This is totally disrupted their living status, they were paying taxes and almost self sufficient , now they will need some government assistance to survive and feed their children. They reached out to their senators and representative's offices and received no help. They have no crimes, no arrests and are trying to assimilate into our culture. Why does the government make this so difficult and expensive. They have paid all the fees to date. Their daughter is an A student. This is bureaucracy at its finest. Just fix the problem and process the forms in a timely manner.
