I respectfully oppose the proposed restrictions on employment authorization for humanitarian parolees, including Ukrainians admitted under the Uniting for Ukraine program. I came to the United States legally through the U4U program after being forced to leave Ukraine because of the war. I followed every rule, obtained work authorization, paid taxes, and worked to support myself instead of relying on public assistance. Making employment authorization more difficult to obtain or renew would create unnecessary hardship for people who are already contributing to their communities. The ability to work legally allows us to pay rent, buy food, support our families, and contribute to the U.S. economy. Many Ukrainians are also applying for or receiving Temporary Protected Status (TPS). During this period of uncertainty, maintaining reliable access to employment authorization is essential. Restricting work permits would make it much harder for families to remain financially stable while they wait for immigration decisions. I respectfully ask USCIS to preserve fair and accessible employment authorization for humanitarian parolees and others who have been lawfully admitted for humanitarian reasons.
