Summary: The commenter, identifying as a government employee, opposes the removal of survey questions regarding employee engagement and satisfaction from the Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey (FEVS). They argue that these questions are essential for understanding morale and retention issues caused by recent executive orders and for identifying poor working conditions.
OPM’s removal of required survey questions that measure employee engagement and satisfaction are factors that tie directly to organizational performance, recruitment and retention. The point of an employee engagement survey, like FEVS, is to help see how employees are feeling about their job. Removing these questions means that it’s going to be very hard to get a picture of where that is and where agencies should focus in terms of retaining the best talent. By including the required morale and retention questions, I'm certain the public would see most hardworking government employees have little to no moral since the 2025-2026 executive orders that were issued by Trump. I'm also certain the survey results would reveal most government employees would leave their jobs if they could find remote work elsewhere. There has been no loyalty or hesitation from the President and the administration when it comes to government workers, so we are not ready to hesitate in our responses when it comes to the FEVS survey. We would like the opportunity to speak about how bad and unrealistic the working conditions have become since these executive orders have taken place. At this point as a government employee, I am not willing to go above or beyond expectations of my agency since the administration has zero desire to offer government workers any type of work-life balance anymore.
