Summary: The commenter opposes the proposed changes to federal government employee discipline, arguing that the new rules would be unfair, discriminatory, and illegal. They specifically criticize the shortened performance improvement plan timeframe, the voluntary abandonment rule, and the removal of union representation.
I am against this administration's attempts to make discipline of federal government employees less fair. Limiting performance improvement plans to just 30 days does not give enough time for an employee to make significantly measurable improvement change. A voluntary abandonment rule invites discrimination against disabled people and those experiencing an emergency. Taking away an employee's right to union representation during disciplinary proceedings goes against federal law. Federal government workers deserve a transparent and fair process in these disciplinary proceedings and the union is the only way to ensure that the employee is receiving fair and transparent treatment. The current way that discipline is addressed is and has been effective and successful for the past 45 years. There is no need to change how things are currently done, as this proposed change would only harm both employee and the agency they work for.
