My name is Connie McAllister, a South Haven, Mi. Resident for over 25 years. I hold the surrounding shoreline, dunes and Lake Michigan in high regard! It is a precious resource that must be preserved and maintained. Visitors come from far and near to enjoy this natural environment especially Lake Michigan. Today I visited Porter Legacy Dunes, an amazing hiking area just north of Van Buren State, which borders the Holtec Palisades Nuclear Operation. These valuable natural resources attest to my concern of Holtec’s safety and destructive environmental impacts. Holtec has already clear-cut a large dune site for the future building of two SMR- 300s Reactors. This premature action on Holtec’s part, occurred before the NRC launched an Environmental Review. The destruction on Critical Dunes and most likely a First Nation Burial site. Holtec must be held accountable for their urgency to clear cut this dune habitat. In conclusion, as a Tax Payer, I want to NRC to ensure Safety to all who reside within 10 miles up to 50 miles of Holtec’s Palisades Plant. I want the NRC to hold Holtec accountable and not allow Holtec to destroy the Historical Dunes of First Nations Burial Sites, part of designated Critical Dunes and ensure preservation of Natural Resources, including the Van Buren State Park ( recently received major upgrades provided by the State of Michigan).
