Summary: A Georgia resident is requesting that the National Park Service halt land exchanges and conduct a formal oversight review regarding the wilderness status of Cumberland Island. The commenter argues that the park should prioritize wilderness preservation over the convenience of private landholders.
As a constituent, I respectfully request that your office urge NPS to stop advancing and funding any land exchanges until a formal oversight review is conducted and the public has access to its results.
This issue is important to me as a resident of Georgia who values wild places like Cumberland Island and supports the preservation of public lands, especially along our Eastern Coast.
I have visited Cumberland Island at least three times in the past 20 years and hope to visit again soon.
The continued degradation of the wilderness status of the island is unacceptable.
The National Park Service should prioritize wilderness over the convenience of in holders who choose to live in what should be difficult circumstances.
