Summary: The commenter opposes the proposed changes, arguing that shark populations are declining and that the claim of overpopulation lacks scientific basis. They express concern that lowering size requirements will lead to the capture of more juveniles, further threatening the species' survival.
I am deeply opposed to the proposed changes. Shark populations have been declining drastically and the claim that they are overpopulated aren’t based in scientific data. Seeing an increase of sharks in an area doesn’t equate to their population rising, rather an abundance in a location.
Additionally, adjusting and lowering size requirements will increase the amount of juveniles being caught before they are given a chance to reproduce, effectively increasing their species risk even more.
This proposal will be incredibly harmful to
our oceans and needs to be reevaluated.
