Summary: The commenter opposes the proposed rule changes, arguing that shark populations are declining and that current claims of overpopulation lack scientific basis. They express concern that loosening catch limits and altering size limits will prevent juvenile sharks from repopulating and harm ocean health.
I am extremely opposed to the proposed rule changes. Shark populations are actively declining and fishers claiming they’re overpopulated aren’t based in scientific evidence rather just seeing an abundance in different locations. Loosening the limit on sharks per boat will have a majorly negative impact on current populations. Especially altering the size limit will prevent younger juveniles from repopulating, furthering the issue.
It is extremely important that this proposal is rethought in order to protect our oceans and our shark populations.
