Summary: The commenter opposes the proposed change, arguing that it reduces the ability for humans to maintain ultimate control over automated vehicle systems. They express concern that the change could compromise safety by making it harder for drivers to intervene during malfunctions or misuse of autonomous technology.
This change seems quite ill-advised. As it is, vehicles purporting to have auto-drive capability, mainly Teslas, are crashing with such controls as brake pedals in place. This is largely because consumers seem to be buying into the overselling of these technologies and, therefore, paying less attention to their vehicles upon activating them.
Every automated system, especially those with such direct and immediate potential effects on the safety of people as autonomous vehicles, need to have fail safes and provisions for human beings to assume ultimate control. This change seems to further remove such ability and, as such, does not seem very well-considered.
