This could cause so many deaths! Lets say in a perfect world that the code built for these cars are totally soundproof and impenetrable, that still wont matter to physics. The sun spews quad trillions of high velocity rays of radiation that carry enough momentum that if it somehow managed to travel through space, the atmosphere, the hood of a car and hit a specific bit in the ECU as someone is driving on the road, there is a good chance of an accident. Rays from the sun influencing our electronics is not rare whatsoever. Its why your computer will suddenly freeze and crash after doing nothing, its why when sometimes you tap on something on your phone and it takes you somewhere completely different. This has even been recorded in gaming culture. A popular old Mario Game streamer had his pc get his by a ray from the sun. This in-turn caused a bit to flip from a 0 to a 1, making a glitch in the game that has never been documented before or after the fact. There's almost no safety net in case this happens now. if there's a mother of three taking her kids to piano lessons from a Waymo, could be injured or killed by the fact that an entire electric car is unpredictable. Even if there's no ray from the sun, this opens the doors for bad actors to lie in wait until lets say a high value target, decides to take a new Cybercab. How are we sure there isn't some person sitting behind the controls without anyone's knowledge. If that bad actor decided to go through with there plan, they would be able to leave a purposeful digital footprint to lead back to AI system itself. They could somehow change the message in the internal system causes a system short or crash of some sort could just be labeled something like "judgement error" or even a "sensor error." This puts not only innocent Americans at risk, but large contributors to the country, anyone like a congressman/woman, a tech CEO, or really anyone who those bad actors think fit their agenda. Theres no saying just exactly who would be safe in these vheicles.
