Summary: A commercial truck driver with over 30 years of experience argues that automatic emergency braking devices are dangerous and prone to "ghost" braking. The commenter claims these systems can cause accidents, such as tractor jackknifing, and exert excessive physical force on the driver.
As a Driver with more than 32 years of accident free miles, I feel those devices are very dangerous. At times they pick up what we call ghosts and slam on the brakes for absolutely no reason. I’ve barely escaped multiple accidents caused by these devices, this includes almost getting into tractor jackknife while the roads were moist. If not for my driving skills I would’ve ended up hurting someone. Not to mention that the braking force applied by the truck when you’re just relaxed behind the wheel almost wants to break your wrists. I have no choice in the matter as I’m a company driver but if I DID have a choice I would stay clear of these highly dangerous devices.
