Summary: A truck driver who operates heavy vehicles argues that the proposed automatic emergency braking equipment is dangerous and prone to false activations. They cite specific instances where the system caused the vehicle to slam on the brakes unnecessarily near overpasses and construction barriers, potentially leading to serious accidents.
That is a terrible idea. I currently operate a Freightliner and an International before that with this equipment installed. It will periodically slam on the brakes going under an overpass or around corners with construction barrels. If it does this in bad weather it will cause serious accidents.Once going down Lookout pass in Idaho it decided the divider wall was a reason to slam on the brakes and caused the tractor to kick sideways. Luckily I recovered it, but its dangerous.
