Comment from Colorado Conservation Alliance w/ Colorado Independent CattleGrowers Association (CICA)

This opportunity to communicate with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) regarding Colorado’s implementation of the 10(j) rule is greatly appreciated. USFWS will likely receive multiple comments on the same subjects, such as: • The Oregon wolves came from a depredating pack which violates the 10(j). • The Canadian wolves didn’t come from “the states” which violates the 10(j). • The Gray Wolves being imported are not native, so this is not a “reintroduction.” • These wolves pose a risk to the endangered Mexican Wolf, which impact should have been considered but wasn’t. • CPW’s “rehabilitation” of depredating wolves by putting them in a sanctuary for a controlled diet of wild game to cure their interest in cattle was nonsense (December 2024). • CPW discouraged and warned against lethal management which is allowed by the10(j). • CPW’s insistence on “site surveys” are not required in the 10(j) for depredation compensation and shouldn’t have been coerced by CPW to keep a claim from being swept to the bottom of the reimbursement stack. In addition to the above, Colorado Conservation Alliance has information that is not known by USFWS or others, and which connects to every aspect of your request for information on Colorado’s implementation of the 10(j) and CPW's related communications. Attached is a formal letter from Colorado Conservation Alliance, as well as an in-depth study which was commissioned in cooperation with the Colorado Independent CattleGrowers Association (CICA).
