Comments on Climbing Management
Thank you for the opportunity to comment on the USFS draft. I appreciate that considerations have been made to include climbing as an appropriate use of National Forests including Wilderness. I support the use of placement and maintenance of fixed anchors for climbing as they contribute to the safety of the activity. I appreciate the acknowledgment of local climbing management policies.
I support the plan with additions of providing a pathway for climbing management plans for local areas, create clear and consistent processes for authorizing new routes in Wilderness, and clarify that fixed anchors outside Wilderness areas are appropriate and work towards the safety of this recreational activity.
Legacy Wilderness climbs should remain available in order to preserve America’s rich climbing legacy and historical significance.
