My name is David Adams I am a volunteer national parks ranger living on Long Island ny I am active on fire island national seashore introducing the arts into our wilderness Please check out our group Watch hill school to see our work I am 70 and in my youth I climbed extensively all over the world being from the United Kingdom I have made 4,000 metre in Spain Switzerland and USA I sport climbed in the Schwangunks extensively leading 5.7 and top roping much harder I support climbing as a wilderness activity but as a climber from to 1980’s until today I have witnessed the argument for bolt placement both pro and con I reject bolting totally on route from many positions the new technology cams largely negate there need The scarification of our rock by entitlement is not sustainable in a caring environment the bolting recently in Yosemite is emblematic of the current discourse indeed even this form was pre filled by pro bolting advocates I climbed within my abilities no bolt placement nor use of chalk which I also consider to be damaging to the environment Respect is everything bolting does not reflect the forever wild ethos and should be constrained Vl
