Summary: The commenter supports the policy statement, arguing that AI companies should not be allowed to steer outputs in ways that deceive consumers. They express concerns that AI systems are already exploitative and that steering outputs would make it harder for consumers to distinguish between real and AI-generated content.
Please do not allow AI companies to alter or steer the output of its systems contrary to consumers’ reasonable expectations. Steering an AI system in any manner may deceive consumers in violation of Section 5 of the FTC Act. AI is already an extractive, exploitive product; open ended AI platforms have stolen intellectual property and will continue to do so without regulation. If AI companies are also then allowed to alter or steer the output of its systems contrary to consumers' reasonable expectations, our ability to discern real from AI will become that much more difficult.
