The Ohio Suicide Prevention Foundation appreciates the Federal Trade Commission's focus on the accuracy and transparency of artificial intelligence systems. As more people turn to AI for behavioral health information, emotional support, and even conversations they might otherwise have with a trusted mental health professional, accuracy is paramount. When someone is experiencing emotional distress or thoughts of suicide, inaccurate or misleading information can have life-threatening consequences. We encourage the FTC to recognize behavioral health as a uniquely high-risk area where AI systems should be held to the highest standards of accuracy, transparency, and reliability. Consumers deserve to know they can trust the information they receive, particularly when their health and safety may depend on it. As AI continues to evolve, ensuring accurate, evidence-based responses in behavioral health settings will help protect vulnerable individuals and strengthen public confidence in these emerging technologies.
