Summary: The commenter suggests that the FTA should track and encourage improvements to transit fare structures to make them more affordable for large families. They specifically propose offering family passes rather than relying solely on individual per-person fares.
Thinking about making transit universally accessible to families, one key factor is the fare structure. Currently, most systems charge per person, which is fine for individuals and couples but can mean for large families the total cost ends up being more than paying for gas and parking. Making the fare structure work better for families could help, such as offering some sort of pass that allows for easy payment for entire families rather than being completely based on individual fares. Availability of such offerings, or cost to a family of a given size, could be good things for FTA to track and to encourage improvement in.
