Safety First: Clarification on Drug & Alcohol Testing for TNC Providers SilverRide is a shared ride, fully ADA-compliant TNC providing service to paratransit programs across the USA. SilverRide’s Position: - Drug and alcohol testing should be a requirement for all paratransit providers. All riders, especially vulnerable populations, deserve assurance that their driver is sober and qualified. - SilverRide supports efforts to identify and remove impaired drivers from the road. Importance of Testing: - Vulnerable populations may be less able to recognize, respond to, or remove themselves from dangerous situations involving impaired drivers. - The Shared Mobility Controlled Substance and Alcohol Testing Requirements were established expressly to address safety concerns, including accidents, injuries, and fatalities caused by impaired drivers. Call to Action: - We urge the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) to maintain its well-researched and long-established safety standards. Drug and alcohol testing is both necessary and achievable; many TNCs and taxis (including SilverRide) already implement these measures. Impact on Services: - Enforcing this rule will not prevent passengers from using compliant TNCs and taxis, as many options (including SilverRide) are available. Programs using non-compliant TNCs may need to shift their services to include only compliant providers.
