Thank you to the FMCSA for providing the opportunity to submit public comments regarding Jennifer Sanchez Vilchis’s request for an immediate exemption that would allow states to issue Class B Commercial Driver’s Licenses (CDLs) to DACA recipients.
I strongly support this request because I am directly affected, along with many other DACA recipients. I have participated in the DACA program for more than eight years and have maintained a clean driving record with no accidents or traffic violations. I completed all required training and successfully passed every DMV examination necessary to obtain my Class B CDL.
I currently work for a city, and the decision to revoke my Class B CDL has had a significant impact on my career. I am no longer able to operate vehicles that require a Class B license, which has limited my ability to perform my job duties and reduced the value I can contribute to my employer. This decision has also affected me financially by limiting my employment opportunities and earning potential.
I respectfully ask the FMCSA to reconsider this policy and grant the requested exemption so that qualified DACA recipients who have met all licensing requirements can continue to hold and use their CDLs. Allowing us to keep our licenses would enable us to continue serving our communities, supporting our families, and contributing to the workforce in a safe and responsible manner.
