Summary: The commenter supports the exemption for DACA recipients to obtain a Class B commercial driver's license. They argue that this action would address the driver shortage and provide economic opportunities for hardworking individuals who already contribute to their communities.
I believe this exemption is important because it creates real opportunities. DACA recipients have demonstrated their commitment to the United States by living, working, paying taxes, and contributing to their communities. Many already work in transportation and are ready to take the next step by earning a Class B commercial driver’s license. Granting this exemption would help address the ongoing driver shortage while opening doors for qualified, hardworking individuals. It would also benefit businesses, schools, public transit agencies, and local governments that depend on professional commercial drivers to serve their communities safely and efficiently. As long as applicants meet the same safety, training, testing, and licensing standards required of every other CDL holder, they should have the same opportunity to obtain a commercial driver’s license. For these reasons, I respectfully encourage the FMCSA to approve this exemption.
