I strongly support the exemption for DACA recipients to receive Class B licenses. I can pass all the requirements for reading and speaking the English language. I have had my CDL class B license for over 7 year with a clean record that can be vetting thru my state. I contribute to society and pay my taxes. This rule is not based on safety but rather on Prejudice. I completely agree that all people who drive a CMV should be able to pass an English Language Test and should also have a good driving record. DACA recipients don’t fall under those categories and to simply take our licenses without consideration of the negative impact on the families that have American Citizens is very catastrophic. DACA recipients provide Billions of dollars in revenue to the government and have been patiently waiting for congress to help pass legislation to provide a protection or pathway towards citizenship. Most of us have been here since children and love this country as if it were our own. I work for the City of San Diego as a sanitation worker and this has negatively impacted my career. Thru my hard work, my employer has helped me through this hardship, and it has all been because of my dedication to the job. I have been with Collection Services for over 7 years with no accidents. This rule doesn’t make our roads safer then before it went into effect. If the FMCSA grants the exemption allowing DACA recipients to have CDL’s our roads will have safe drivers who can be vetted and can understand the English language which is why this rule came into effect.
