Summary: The commenter supports the exemption request for DACA recipients to obtain Commercial Driver's Licenses (CDLs). They argue that because DACA recipients have undergone federal vetting and have domestic driving histories, they do not pose the same safety risks as drivers with unverified foreign records.
I strongly support the exemption request to allow DACA recipients with valid work authorization to hold a CDL. DACA recipients arrived in the U.S. as children and have already undergone comprehensive federal vetting, so their complete driving and background histories are entirely domestic. The FMCSA's standard safety concerns regarding unverified foreign records simply do not apply here. Approving this exemption preserves highway safety standards while enabling qualified, thoroughly vetted individuals to address driver shortages in our public transit and school bus networks.
